Today I am unsubscribing, deleting, creating rules and more to deal with my inbox it allows me to think clearer and deal with the pressure that emails can create on my day.

Read it, Flag it, Delete it:

It is that simple the email can be read and responded to, flagged for follow up or deleted. Apply this approach and you will save time

Don’t leave your email open

Leaving your email open only leave you open to distraction, hide it or minimise it in your toolbar and check once an hour.

Folders are your friend

Create folders and rules that sort your emails as they come in it allow you to filter your emails and prioritise into reading and response groups. The same rules of Read it, Flag it, Delete it apply

Unsubscribe from unwanted/unread emails

Emails that we don’t read just clog up our inbox, and distract us from what we need t do for the day. Unsubscribe and delete it!

Flag and Categorise:

There are times that we can’t respond to an email when we read it. Flag it or categorise it to follow up then make time once a week to clear the flags.

These tips allow me to run with a clear head I would love to hear what strategies you use for email management – why not leave me a comment.

After networking today with the group it came up about liker number and the effect that business page use has had on the growth of pages. Likes from a business page don’t count as a liker of a business page and combined with all the other Facebook changes it is now harder to grow a liker base.

For me I have hardly used the business profiles of my pages since they came in and if we do it is maybe once a week or so that we do. The reason being that I like people to meet me and to introduce the business/service of our range of brands to the page or group I am communicating with.

Reasons to Use your Personal Profile on Facebook:

To Participate in groups (this is not available in page mode)

To keep the personal aspect of Social Networking

To allow people to know your business and you

To like pages so that the liker base for the page increases (Karma will see it come back to you

I maybe old fashioned but I like using my profile to network on Facebook and for me I see it as an important tool in my business in addition to pages and groups.

Hiring for small business is not as simple as you may think. Small business owners are often so invested in their need to hire someone they often make hiring errors by making their decision in a hurry or by using emotion to make the decision instead of what is objectively best for their business. Often where emotion is involved it is better to introduce a 3rd party to the equation to get the best for your business.

There are 3 Key Questions to ask that lead to Recruiting Success:

1. Do you have the time to recruit for staff?

If you answer no to this question, do you have some other person in the business that does have the time and that you trust to recruit for you? It is important that the person doing the recruiting has the time to recruit for staff as well as completing their work load so a unrushed and not a time poor discussion is made in the recruiting process.

Your new staff member is an asset to your team and you don’t want to hire the wrong person and lose time and money by taking the next/first person who comes in off the street.

2. Who are you looking for?

Take the time to identify the person you are looking for. There is no point getting weeks or months into a new employee starting only to find you needed a builder instead of a plumber! So make sure you take the time to create a list of what you are looking for and then make a position description to recruit from and to give your applicants.

Take the time to work out what you want in a new staff member. Prepare a list, read the resumes, interview once and interview 2nd. And reference check. It may sound like a lot but it is all worth it considering the investment you are making.

3. Will your applicant fit your business culture?

Business culture is important and we all know what it is like to work with someone who does not fit the team. The damage a poor hiring decision can have on the business is enormously costly. Do your background checks, use tools like emotional profiling and behavioural interviewing; if unsure ask the experts – they can often help in these areas to allow you to make a clearer, more efficient choice.

Don’t know where to start or confused? This is where experts like the Team at FC Recruitment can help. They can offer Full Recruiting Services or just help you with the specific areas you need. Have questions or want to know more – contact the team on 1300 386 387

Taking the skeleton of your Business Plan & putting flesh on it!

No I haven’t been spending too much times listening to the Wiggles with my son, but I must admit I was a bit dry coming up with what to write about for “What makes Enever Consulting Business Plan Different”.

Tonight I was chatting to my husband about Enever Consulting’s Business Plan….

I was telling him how I’d spent a few hours today trying to write an appropriate blog about what sets Clive apart from the rest of the Business Coaches ‘out there’. How I’d seen a few Business Coach street signage & banner ads recently & wanted to write about it. He then asked me a pointed question about why I was having a “blog block”….

In reply I said quite succinctly:

“Actually Honey, I was trying to write about how Clive helps Business owners take their basic Business Plan in it’s skeleton form, helping them put flesh on it & breath life into their Business. Whether the ‘life’ is getting the business to show a profit or taking a profitable business through the next stage of expansion.”

In that moment I had it!

As I’ve chatted to a few business owners that have started their business with a basic Business Plan, then they’ve decided to get a Business Coach. As part of Clive’s thoroughness, he specifically goes through each part of the Business Plan process with them. The Business owners turn around & say: “I didn’t realise that I hadn’t thought that part out”, “Wow this business is bigger than what I thought it was” or “I CAN do this business & it WILL make us money”.

Businesses need a Business Plan, but not just an outline, it needs to have the flesh around it so that when the going’s tough, you are re-inspired to keep on going, if an opportunity comes up – you know whether it fits into the criterion that will enhance your business not take it in a different direction than what you wanted. The Business Plan reflects what you want to create, develop & succeed in as your Business.

During the recent school holidays, I escorted my daughter on her tricycle down to her school friends house. We’re at the top of the street, the friends house is quite a distance away so I decided that riding her tricycle down there would be better than getting her to walk the distance. As she was riding along I saw her intensely peddling & looking down & wobbling from side to side on the pathway. (She usually rides around in circles in the garage at home). Initially I used my hand to guide her where she needed to go, but that was taking constant guidance, so I gently coached her in how to ride her tricycle in a straight line, towards a point that was easy for her to spot & focus on.

So as she peddled I asked her to look at the post at the end of each block, focus on that, not look at the peddles & once we reached it to stop, look both ways & cross the street with mum. As we were going along, she improved, the meandering ceased, the peddling was less frantic & as we reached the end of each block she’d look up, become more aware of where she was at & crossed the street, then began the process again.

Half way down the road I realised that these principles were also applicable in many areas of life. Specifically for this analogy, in business. So often we get looking at what we are frantically doing, not really focusing on a specific point to reach, meandering around as the work effort we put in pulls us from side to side. Looking up intermittently to see if we are any closer to the long range goal.

For my daughter the goal was to ride her tricycle all the way to her friends house. But as she went along, even though she was putting the effort in & going in the right direction. She needed me to coach her as to how to break it up into smaller, doable goals so that she could see that the effort she was putting in was not only getting her closer to her friends place but also that she was becoming aware of where she was each time we stopped & crossed over a street.

So to it is in business, as we progress along we have the goal of a successful business in mind, and we do a lot of work to ‘get there’. A business coach can guide in the break down of the large goal into smaller doable goals. Clive can assist, when the smaller goals are attained, then prompt a stop, take a moment with you to reassess your business, so you can look up and be aware of where it actually is at. As a business coach, Clive can then help you in setting the next goal, so as your business strides into the cross roads, you’ll know which direction you need to take and commence working towards the next goal. Very soon the goal of a successful business will be attained. From there Clive will further assist in the reassessment & planning for the next stage of maintaining & building your business further.
